Completing a Misdemeanor Intervention Program may enable defendants to have certain criminal charges dropped in Tampa
The Misdemeanor Intervention Program (MIP) is available in some circumstances to those charged with certain misdemeanors in Hillsborough, Pinellas and most other counties in the Tampa Bay area and the rest of Florida.
Also known as a Misdemeanor Diversion Program, or M.D.P., this type of program affords first time offenders an opportunity to immediately accept responsibility for their actions, seek rehabilitation, and divert their cases from the criminal court system.
With the assistance of an attorney, it may be possible to convince the prosecutor to let a defendant’s case go into this program.

Is the Misdemeanor Intervention Program the right choice for your situation?
For first time offenders in Hillsborough County there are basically 3 options.
- If you’re not guilty, plead not guilty and fight the case on the merits without using MIP. This preserves your chance at MIP if anything else happens down the road.
- Plead no contest, pay court costs, possibly probation, and wind up with a charge on your record.
- Do MIP, stay out of trouble, pay some fees and the charge gets dropped.
