Warrant Walk Through
A warrant walk through is a very valuable tool that we use to allow someone to lower their bond or perhaps even allow them to be released on their own recognizance, or ROR – and have an advantage to pick the time of the arrest rather than let law enforcement pick the time of the arrest.
With a walk through, you hire an attorney, your attorney gets the bond signed for your warrant, and then you and your attorney schedule a time for you to turn yourself in along with your bond. Although a booking will still be required to get information including a picture and prints, you get to immediately go home and will no longer have an active warrant.
The whole process takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of self-surrenders that day. This is a much more desirable situation to be in rather than waiting to get arrested, then hiring an attorney, and then calling a bonds company to get you out of jail. It also helps demonstrate a defendant’s willingness to cooperate, which can also be of benefit later in the case.
If you’re aware that there’s going to an arrest pending – whether it’s from a warrant for a violation of probation, a probable cause arrest, or a warrant signed by a judge, you can do – by retaining an attorney – a walk through.
What that allows us to do is we have you turn yourself in by arranging with law enforcement ahead of time. So at a time when we can have you at a hearing very soon after that. We can pick the time, and the time of your hearing.
That way once you walk through and turn yourself in, we can argue to the judge at your hearing that you voluntarily came in, you did not flee, and then we can present evidence at that hearing to show why you’re a good risk to lower your bond and perhaps even allow you to be released on your own recognizance, or ROR, without posting any money at all.
The walk through is a very valuable tool that we use to allow someone to have release and have an advantage and pick the time of the arrest rather than let law enforcement pick the time of the arrest.
